The Holy Thief

The Holy Thief is a Historical whodunnit by Ellis Peters. It is the 19th and penultimate volume of the Brother Cadfael series, and, like the others, is set in England during The Anarchy.

Plot

In late 1144, Geoffrey de Mandeville's reign of terror in the Fens comes to an abrupt end when Geoffrey succumbs to an infection, brought on by a minor graze from an arrow. The Benedictine monks of Ramsey Abbey are restored to their home after a long absence, and plead for funds with which to rebuild their destroyed abbey.

Prior Herluin of Ramsey arrives at Shrewsbury, leading the novice Tutilo, pleading for whatever aid and alms the Abbey and the town can provide.

Media adaptations

The book was adapted for the Central Independent Television series "Cadfael," starring Derek Jacobi. The resulting episode was the first episode of the fourth series.
